Happy Labor Day!!! Cinema Sips is celebrating with THE PAJAMA GAME, featuring Doris Day as my favorite (and best-dressed!) labor organizer. As chairwoman of the Grievance Committee, she fights hard for a 7 1/2 cent raise for her coworkers, and she does it all while nailing those Bob Fosse dance routines. The movie is a reminder that in a healthy society, as with pajamas, the bottom is just as important as the top. Watch it with a Hernando’s Honeycrisp Sangria! Happy #nationalmaitaiday!!!! I’ve had a lot of great Mai Tais over the years, in a lot of great places, and I love that this drink has such a rich history. I used to say, if it has pineapple juice, it’s not a Mai Tai, but honestly, if I’m drinking it on vacation with an awesome view, I really don’t care. Call it whatever you want. (But for the record, my personal favorite is a Trader Vic’s ‘44 with a dark rum float). Cheers! No longer confined to Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, he is now enjoying the smooth drinks and mellow Exotica records in the Cinema Sips lounge. Most little birdies will fly away, but the Tiki Room bird is here everyday. 🥰 🦜🍹 Y’all, I’ve fallen madly in love with MURIEL’S WEDDING (1994). The cherry on top of this day? The fresh batch of Exotica albums awaiting our weekly #vinylcocktailhour. Cheers! Summer S.A.D. is here, and the only cure is Paul Newman. You know that part in ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD when Leo points at the TV in excitement and recognition? That’s me every time a Tiki bar shows up in an old movie. I was already loving A KISS BEFORE DYING (part of @criterioncollection’s “Murderous Melodramas”), but then the Pago Pago lounge appeared on screen. This Tucson Tiki bar is legendary, as is its eponymous cocktail. In a movie where everybody has to look over their shoulder in fear of a deadly Robert Wagner, the Pago Pago feels like the one safe place in town. Cheers! Ever wonder what a Pan Am boarding pass used to look like? We came across one in my beloved (sadly departed) aunt’s house, and I couldn’t resist snapping this pic with my little ode to the Jet-Set. ✈️ Even though this ticket was only for a short jaunt, Aunt Linda saw a lot of exciting places in her day.
