Jean Harlow has entered the chat. I’m cruising through Vegas this week, which means it’s time to watch FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS with a weird, deceptively strong cocktail! Too many Carousels and you’ll be as unsteady as Hunter S. Thompson on an ether trip, so make sure you have a buddy to guide you back to your pink shag lair. And as always, watch out for bats. Cheers! No, it’s not #ThirstyThursday, but it may as well be with PICNIC new on the blog this week! This was a first-time watch for me, but definitely not the last. William Holden’s shirtless smoldering will definitely become an annual tradition in my house 🔥. The movie pairs perfectly with a Watermelon Cosmo, because what’s a Midwestern picnic without watermelon? BIG NEWS!!!!! @moviejawn is at Barnes & Noble!!!!! I’m so, so proud of the whole MJ crew, but especially @the.oldsport for making this happen. It was a huge undertaking, and it feels pretty perfect to have the first widely distributed issue be one of my personal favorite themes, “Cinematic Hotels”. I wrote about Bad Times at the El Royale, which was a great excuse to share some Cal-Neva gossip and make a whiskey sour. Never thought I’d see my name in a bookstore on something other than ‘Follow the Sun’, but Moviejawn is out here making dreams come true. Cheers to making big moves, and spreading the gospel of cinema! Cinema Sips is setting sail into the opulent world of William Randolph Hearst with THE CAT’S MEOW and this classic “Charleston” cocktail! A perfect Jazz Age sip, this’ll make you feel like a member of the party, whether you’re rich, famous, or (like me) neither of these things. I had the best time exploring the Hearst Castle on my recent California adventure, and it was fun to imagine all the celebrities traveling through in its heyday. Apparently, Cary Grant was NOT a fan of the paper napkins at dinner 😂. This movie gives a little glimpse into Hearst’s rarefied circle, and it definitely makes me feel justified in my general dislike of cruises. 😜 Cheers! MILK (2008) hit the blog last week with a Harvey Milk Punch, and I’m just poking my head out of post-vacation catch-up to say Happy Pride!!!, and let’s all take the spirit of Harvey Milk with us to the polls in November. ✊🌊 “We live in a glass house - we’re not throwing any stones.” For this Doris Day fan, dinner at Terry’s Restaurant at the @cypress_inn was absolutely amazing! I knew I wanted to come here for my birthday, but I couldn’t have anticipated the entire patio serenading not me, but an adorable 12-yr old dog who shares my special day. He even brought a birthday cake to share with all the other pooches at nearby tables! (Don’t worry, I had my own human treat 😉). Honestly, it was pretty perfect, and it felt like Doris was smiling down on us all. Cheers to my movie fairy godmother, and a great night in a magical place. “Here I was born, and there I died. It was only a moment for you; you took no notice.“
